Bachata and Salsa Lessons in Houston
Olga Richardson teaches bachata and salsa in Houston at Premier Dance USA, 4003 Bellaire Blvd, Suite GG. A World Professional Latin Finalist, she gives social Latin dancers the hip action, timing and partnering that turn a few patterns into real dancing.
What you'll work on
- Timing and rhythm, so you always know where the count is
- Latin hip action and body movement, done naturally
- Leading and following with a clear, comfortable connection
- Turn patterns and styling you can take straight to a social night
Beginners welcome
You don't need a partner or any experience. Private lessons let you learn at your own pace, alone or as a couple, including preparing a bachata or salsa first dance for a wedding.
Bachata or salsa: where to start
Bachata is usually the gentler start. The basic is four counts with a tap, the music is slower, and couples can look good together quickly. Salsa is faster and turn-heavy, and it rewards a little more practice before it feels comfortable on a crowded floor. Many students start with bachata, then add salsa once the timing feels natural. Olga will suggest what fits your goals in the first lesson.
What a first lesson looks like
Olga starts with the music: finding the beat, then the basic step on its own, then with a partner. The aim of a first lesson is simple: a basic, a turn and a way to finish, so you leave knowing exactly what to practice before the next one.
Questions social dancers ask
Will this help me at a club or a social? That is the point. The patterns are the ones you'll actually use, and the lead and follow work means you can dance with someone new, not only your partner.
Can we learn bachata for our wedding? Yes. A bachata first dance is one of the most popular choices, and it can be as simple or as styled as you like. See wedding first dance lessons.
Is this ballroom salsa or club salsa? Social salsa and bachata as they're danced out on the town, taught with a Latin champion's eye for timing and body movement.
